Sam Brasch played basketball on very successful high school teams at Central Valley in Spokane where he was named First Team All-League and First Team All-Regional his senior year of 1970.

In 1971-72 he was a double-figure scorer on the first Spokane Community College team in history. That team, coached by Craig Johnson, won the Eastern Region title in their inaugural season, and Brasch was named MVP of the 1973 team.

He then played two years at Whitworth College, 1974-76, for Coach Cal Riemcke. Both seasons, he was an All-League selection leading the team in scoring and rebounding and was named team MVP.

His senior year, he was team Captain and was also an NAIA All-District selection. Sam spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Whitworth while finishing up his degree and was named interim head coach at age 27 for the 1979-80 season.

Brasch was then hired to be the head coach at Spokane in 1981 and coached for 21 years. He was named Eastern Region Coach of the Year in 1982, 1984, 1985, and 1992 with those teams winning regional titles.

The 1984 team set a still-standing Eastern Region record, going 15-0 in league play. The 2000 Sasquatch team were NWAACC Champions and Brasch was named NWAACC coach of the year.
