Ray graduated from Belmont Boy’s Intermediate School in Port of Spain, Trinidad. After school Ray then enlisted in the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment for 4 years where he was a captain of the B-company track team and worked with delinquent youth.
In 1967 and 1971 he represented his country at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada and Cali, Columbia. In 1968 Ray participated in the Olympics in Mexico City in the 4X100 relay. His team that year made it to the semifinals.
In 1970 Ray arrived in Walla Walla, WA and ran track for Walla Walla CC. During his two years at Walla Walla CC he won the 100 and 200 back to back in 1971 and 1972.
Ray then was selected to run for Trinidad again in 1972 at the Olympics in Munich, but his passport was stolen and he was unable to travel and compete.
Ray graduated from Whitworth University with a bachelor’s in physical education and a master’s in Education. He competed, taught and coached at Whitworth then taught and coached at Spokane CC.
Ray spent the next 30 years teaching in the public schools in Spokane and Kirkland, WA. After he retired he moved to Coos Bay, OR where he has coached Men’s Soccer, assisted with the Track and Field team and is currently the head men’s and women’s golf teams. His men’s golf team won the NWAC Golf Championship in 2013.
